A Look Around the Conference

The Ducks getting a week off allows us to take a little bit of a look around the conference at what happened on the Saturday that was.

Arizona State Hammers Colorado

Colorado came out of the gates ready to play. At one point they led 7-6 and all the way through the first half they kept it tight, trailing only 20-17 going into the locker room. The Sun Devils put it away in the second half and boy did they do it quick. Rashad Ross took the opening kick of the second half 100 yards in the other direction for the Sun Devils and the flip was switched. In a very Oregon-esque second half Arizona State scored 31 unanswered points in dominating fashion.

USC Wins against Mistake Riddled Washington

Washington had a shot at this one. Barkley was absurdly mediocre 10-20 on the night with 1 TD and 1 Int. However Price & Co just made far too many mistakes. 4 Turnovers, a blocked punt returned for a USC touchdown. Those are the kind of mistakes that lose you a football game. The kind of mistakes that made Oregon lose to LSU last year. The Trojans seem significantly less daunting, but anything can happen in a few weeks of college football.

P.S. Running back transfer from Penn State Silas Redd should be the MVP for USC from what we have seen so far.

UCLA Maintains against Utah

UCLA defeated Utah in the approximate fashion that folks expected them too. Not by a lot and not with a lot of flash. When everything was said and done there were 7 more points on the board for UCLA and that's what counts. Brett Hundley and Shaquelle Evans made a strong connection on a night when star RB Johnathan Franklin was held to 79 yards.

Fourth Quarter Smack-Down on BYU by Oregon State

This was fun. I feel bad because I have a lot of family members who are BYU fans, but to watch Oregon State turn on the heat when it really mattered was impressive, with its back-up QB no less! With the way Stanford couldn't get the ball moving this week (No offensive touchdowns) the Beaver Believers, who also benefit from not facing USC this year could very realistically be 10-0 coming into Civil War in Corvallis.  This is even raising some questions about who is the best team in the Pac-12. Game on, we will see you on November 24th.

Pillow Fight of the Weekend - WSU vs Cal

The two most under-achieving teams in the conference (The Buffs, while terrible, are exceeding expectations) faced off in a game of turnovers. WSU, I implore you, pick a QB and stick with him. Oregon tried that nonsense with Dixon and Leaf back in '06. It does not work. Period. Cal running back C.J. Anderson ran for 112 yards and 2 TDs in the battle to see which team was the least horrible.

Irish Get Lucky

You read my previous post concerning my frustrations with this game. Irish fans say his elbow was down, everyone else in the world says it wasnt. You decide for yourself with a look here.
