Pac-12 Power Rankings - Week 7

North

#1. Oregon 6-0 (3-0)

The Ducks have dominated their games so far. November 3rd looms, but am I the only one more curious/anxious for November 24th? Beavers could be 10-0 at that point.

#2. Oregon State 5-0 (3-0)

The Beavers may have the quietest 5-0 start in the country. Beating BYU on the road with a backup QB shows that they are for real and with the way Stanford has been playing lately they could be undefeated heading into the civil war. Impressive little brother. Impressive.

#3 Washington 3-3 (1-2)

The Huskies may be the best team with three losses when you look at who those losses were to. A valid argument can be made for Stanford to be here, but Washington beat Stanford head to head so for now they stay. The Huskies miss ASU in what is mostly a breezy second half of the season.

#4 Stanford 4-2 (2-1)

When you begin to look at Stanford's wins, and the manner of those wins, you begin to see a good team that hasn't quite turned the corner with its new QB. The win over USC is looking less impressive as the Trojan's continue play and they face both Oregon teams this November.

#5 Cal 3-4 (2-2)

I don't understand Cal. When they are on they look great and when they aren't they look absolutely horrid. They scratched and clawed their way to a win in the pillow fight of the week to keep from being in the next spot.

#6 Washington State 2-5 (0-4)

Most people expected there to be some growing pains with new coach Mike Leach. He hasn't been able to recruit players to his scheme yet. One of the reasons Chip Kelly hit the ground so fast as a head coach was that he had 2 years as offensive coordinator to get some guys in. Leach doesn't have that luxury and folks in Pullman need a little patience, he was the right choice.

South

#1A. Arizona State 5-1 (3-0)

My poll this week was which Pac-12 South team is better? ASU or USC? The majority went with ASU which gets them my 1A slot here. We will know a lot more about ASU with how they play the ducks this week. The good news is that the Sun Devil and the Trojans meet later in the year to duke it out for supremacy in the south.

#1B. Southern California 5-1 (3-1)

My #1 pick in the south, for now. While the Trojans haven't met expectations, they are still winning games and their 1 loss is to a much higher quality opponent than Missouri. Nov 3th is in the forefront, but the Trojans may be more concerned with November 10th. Drop that and there may be no championship game, regardless of how they play Oregon.

#3 UCLA 5-2 (2-2)

A puzzling loss to Cal drops the Bruins, but they are still very much in contention to go to the Pac-12 Championship this year. Hundley is a beast and is starting to make plays with his arm.

#4 Arizona 3-3 (0-3)

One of the hardest schedules in the conference. The Wildcats are better than their record shows. They played hard against Stanford and OSU, but the schedule doesn't soften up much. Bowl Game is the goal.

#5 Utah 2-4 (0-3)

Injuries and mistakes have lead to Utah slipping down to #5. The end of the schedule eases up and a bowl game is still a possibility for the Utes.

#6 Colorado 1-5 (1-2)

Last year Colorado won some games it shouldn't have. That accurately describes the win the Buffs got this year, and will for any unlikely win that happens in the remainder of the Season.
